Your way into the world of drones — with coding and drone racing
The holiday courses run by the DroneMasters Academy open up digitalisation and aerodynamics in a playful way, through drones and drone racing. In our four- and five-day workshops, children and young people between 10 and 15 learn to handle age-appropriate drone systems. Experienced trainers and coaches teach them how to fly drones, how to program them and how to handle them safely.
Since 2017 the holiday courses run by the DroneMasters Academy have been giving children and young people access to a forward-looking technology. Drones also open up a unique way into related fields such as 3D printing and programming, offering a look at new technical careers.
We run our workshops during the school holidays.
The workshops in the summer holidays last five days, those in the other holidays four.

The workshop programme runs from 10:00 to 16:00. Supervision is provided from 09:30 to 17:00. Drinks are provided; participants bring their own lunch.

Lunch and drinks are included in this course. Eating food brought from outside is not permitted at this venue. We will ask about dietary requirements before the course.

The holiday courses run by the DroneMasters Academy aim to get children and young people excited about drone technology. They become familiar with the physics of flight, get to know how drones are built and how they work, and fly their own race at the end. Throughout the workshop, our juniors are encouraged to contribute their own ideas and solutions. We place particular emphasis on building technical skills and on understanding how simple electronic circuits work. The courses cover important areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), taught in a playful and age-appropriate way.
The workshop programme runs from 10:00 to 16:00. Supervision is provided from 09:30 to 17:00.
The Junior Academy workshop starts with a relaxed introduction to the world of drones. Your Academy trainers give you an overview of aerodynamics and the components of rotor systems. You then look at how drones are built and at their electronics, and learn the legal and safety basics of aviation. To round off the first day, you make your first test flight within visual line of sight.
More basics, more flying. You also get to grips with programming drones. To build up flying experience quickly, the Academy trainers give you plenty of support and you can practise on the flight simulator.
Everyone discovers their own favourites when it comes to drones. Whether that is flying within visual line of sight, flying on the simulator or block-based programming.
Practice is everything. To prepare for the final obstacle course the next day, today is all about intensive training with the drone and on the simulator. Your Academy trainers are close at hand with tips and tricks for flying drones.
Today things get fast. You get to show everyone the flying skills you have picked up over the week! But first there is a quick introduction to the basic rules and to good conduct in drone sport. Flying the final obstacle course demands everything you have learned. And at the end everyone is recognised for what they have achieved with the official DroneMasters Academy certificate.
This programme is intended as an example of how a course runs. Depending on the weather and on the interests and progress of the participants, the focus may shift to particular topics. The four-day courses cover the same content in condensed form.

Catering
We ask all participants to bring their own lunch. We will schedule a generous lunch break. Trips to bakeries or cafés are not part of the programme. There will be plenty of water available on site, but we recommend that everyone brings their own labelled water bottle. We are also glad if participants have a good breakfast before the workshop.
Clothing
Part of the workshop takes place indoors and part outdoors. Children should be dressed to suit the weather.
Emergencies
If a child has any health problems during the workshop, we will notify the emergency contact immediately and, if necessary, call the emergency services.

What happens in the course?

The workshops run over several days, each with a different focus. Every day includes both theoretical and practical modules, so that participants get a rounded insight into the subject.
Is lunch provided?
No, participants need to bring their own lunch. We provide plenty of drinks on site.
What is included in the price?
The price includes all the learning materials needed for the course: drones, computers and much more. Participants do not need to bring their own drones or any other equipment.
What do the children need to bring?
Unlike at school, there is no note-taking here. All participants need to bring is their lunch, clothing suitable for the weather and plenty of curiosity.
What previous experience is required?
Our holiday courses for beginners can be taken with no previous experience at all. All you need is an interest in the subject and a willingness to work together in a group. The advanced courses each build on the knowledge from the previous ones.
How many children take part in the course?
Numbers on the holiday courses are limited to 16 participants. Groups are normally supervised by at least two trainers, so that we can guarantee a supervision ratio of 1:8.
