Certificate Course – Drones and Security in the Maritime Environment

Fundamentals of a Comprehensive Drone Defense Strategy

This certification course provides security officers at port facilities and maritime critical infrastructure with practical knowledge on how to address drone threats. The focus is on the detection, assessment, and defense against drones under real-world port conditions, as well as the integration of legal requirements such as ISPS, NIS2, and KRITIS. Participants learn to analyze risks, establish effective processes, take human factors into account, and organize cooperation with authorities. The goal is to build resilience within port organizations and ensure they remain capable of acting quickly and in compliance with the law in the event of an emergency.

Target audience

Security officers at port facilities, terminal operators, port authorities, operators of critical maritime infrastructure (e.g., container and bulk cargo terminals, shipyards), service providers in port and facility security, ISPS officers (Port Facility Security Officers – PFSO), IT and facility managers in port operations, as well as representatives of authorities and organizations with security responsibilities in the maritime sector (e.g., port supervision, water police, coast guard), and managers of civilian security services in the field of property and facility security.

Seminar Objective

Presenting options for action and response strategies for drone threats in port and maritime environments, with a particular focus on human factors. Examining organizational, legal, and procedural aspects of detecting, assessing, and responding to drone incidents in port facilities and adjacent waterways. Derivation of obligations and measures from regulatory requirements such as NIS2 and the KRITIS Framework Act, as well as other maritime and aviation regulations. The seminar prepares participants for the evaluation and implementation of technical detection and defense measures specifically tailored to complex port infrastructures and maritime operations.

Methodology

Interactive presentations, case studies, simulation exercises, and real-world examples from recent incidents in the field of drone safety, live demonstrations, and hands-on drone flying.
